There's perfume burning in the air
Bits of beauty everywhere
Shrapnel flying, soldier hit the dirt

She comes so close
You feel her then
She tells you No and No again
Your lip is cut on the edge of her pleated skirt
Blue Alert

Visions of her drawing near
Arise, abide, and disappear
You try to slow it down
It doesn't work

It's just another night I guess
All tangled up in nakedness
You even touch yourself
You're such a flirt
Blue Alert

You know how nights like this begin
The kind of knot your heart gets in
Any way you turn is going to hurt

There's perfume burning in the air
Bits of beauty everywhere
Shrapnel flying, soldier hit the dirt
Blue Alert

She breaks the rules so you can see
She's wilder than you'll ever be
You talk religion but she won't convert

Her body's twenty stories high
You try to look away, you try
But all you want to do is get there first
Blue Alert

You know how nights like this begin
The kind of knot your heart gets in
Any way you turn is going to hurt

There's perfume burning in the air
Bits of beauty everywhere
Shrapnel flying, soldier hit the dirt
Blue Alert
Blue Alert...

  • wow she's got a voice like "an old soul". great song

  • despite her name, she is american, born in athens, georgia. as we are a nation of immigrants, such things do happen. what is interesting is that she has a;sp spent years and years in france, so in way she must have drank back her heritage as she has progressed through the years. but of course, none of these facts really matters. she has a beautiful transcending voice, and what do aritificial national boundaries matter when we are all affected by such a human voice : )

  • @woolfl Too bad to be you. Try researching some blues history and find yourself a veritable treasure trove of female vocalists many with this very style. She is one of many fine singers in this genre. Tell me more about Neko but let me plug a vein first to get in the mood. In other words , don't open your pie hole if you don't know shit, youngster.

  • I think I just came.

  • Does anyone else get the feeling they could fall asleep to her voice? Definately not my genre, but I honestly like this.

  • A great song about getting the blue balls!!! Ouch, I hate em'!

  • @woolfl

2nd person - cos Leonard Cohen wrote the song....imagine HIM singing it --- there 'ya go......haha =0) those crazy cover songs

  • @woolfl hey not to be a dick, but these aren't her lyrics, I don't know if you explored here, but she DOES have soul

  • Old Navy commercial, yeah? :)

  • 21st century Billy Holliday... great voice

  • Don't see the appeal frankly. Seems she is singing in a safe 2nd person " you do this feeble thing, that feeble thing, she overthrows you with her beauty and prowess etc, etc" . Given, that is a form typical of early lounge style but "little bits of beauty everywhere" seems like bad writing, meaningless and vague. Ok, Ok, if it's art and you like it, who I am to opinionate it away. I'll go listen to Ray LaMontagne, Neko Case, or Cocorosie and enjoy myself. Just wanted to mix the fan fest some.

  • That's some easy listenin'
