China is only building their own military weapons in preparation to US military threats. We saw how China was "delibrately provoked" (in many ways) over the years and of course China had to response. Every country must have their own form of protection. The whole Middle Eastern episodes are good examples of what I meant.

@psuphs47 in addition to what docsein1 said, the missle changes it's flight path periodically so even if u launched something by the time it should intercept it the missle is on a different path

Doesn't take into account any of the next generation defensive measures being brought in by the US , including the ability to engage hypersonic and ballistic weapons.

The "carrier killer" is a ballistic missile. This means that it will launch into space, similar to an ICBM (except without the nuke), before it comes down at 90 degrees at, "possibly", Hyper-sonic velocities.
In other words there's little that can aim at it, and there's little that can detect, react, and track it fast enough to shoot it down before it hits.
A one shot one kill weapon, as long as the guidance and targeting is good.
