You don't want your character for figure drawing to fall over do you? Balance is one of the key elements to successful figure drawing. Here is how you do it!

  • This "nose knows" technique makes it seem so simple. There's many things i'm still very confused with when it comes to the figure, but this will definitely take a load off for future figure drawing work.

One question though, I hope you or anyone that knows can answer. I still don't understand what you mean by "finding the balance". How exactly is the balance of the figure found? Is it just checking whether or not the shoulders and hips are in vertical alignment?

  • @gesi1223

Finding the balance just means weather or not your figure would fall over. Having proper weight on your figure drawing is super important. The "Nose Knows", if a kind of test to use to see if your character, or figure, would be able to hold that pose. The hips don't always have to be in alignment with the chest. in fact that can make the pose look boring.

    Thanks for the question!

  • In a book I read it showed the weight to be under the pit of the neck but the nose thing makes sense also

  • @GrayWolf79

    I know

    But nose rhymes with knows.

    Thanks for asking

    Regards

    Sheldon

  • I think a lot of artists fail to stress the importance of balance in their figure drawings, which is a big deal because to me if the figure doesn't look stable than the entire drawing looks flimsy.
