Im gonna put my kids on a couple of these and they will be in bed by 10 pm for sure in the future! I will just lie and say they are creating energy to run the entire house because the economy is so bad.. .no bike pedaling for 4 hours a day...no Playstation 3!

Having a bicycle powered sewing machine, I can't help wondering what the fascination is with pedal powered electricity is about. Of what practical use is it? Sure, it's fun to play with.....for a minute or two. Somehow I can't see anyone pedaling for three or four hours to charge their cell phone. I just don't see much practical use for the amount of electrical power generated. Can someone give me a clue? Pedaling to get someplace, short term use of a machine, yes. but electricity???

I found an answer for my question. With a generator capable of putting out 10 amps at 14 volts, one could put enough charge a dead car battery in about 10 minutes to get it started. Makes jumper cables obsolete!

To 'balanceblue': At best that's a terrible joke.....at worst you wanna buy child slaves.....for you.....or you wanna make a handsome profit reselling them to the highest bidding pedophile???? I think this is a REAL GOOD science class for the kids!!!

Most Treadmill motors are rated to handle a max current of 6 or 7 amps which would only let you deliver around 100 Watts of power. The leeson M1120046 is rated for 14 Amps which translates to about 200 Watts of delivered power when charging a powerpack or lead acid battery at 14.8 Volts ( 14 Amps X 14.8 Volts = ~ 200 Watts.

Did I see a cost for the motor/generator as $150? You can get old tradmill permanent magnet motors for a third of that on ebay.
