Determining the health, social and economic impacts of a localised food supply is one of VicHealth's research priorities. Access to affordable and quality food supply is essential for healthy eating. Current concerns with sustainable quality food supplies, the concentration of food outlets, the environmental costs (e.g water, oil and soil) of the growing, transportation, processing and distribution of food waste and waste management promoted advocacy to support a localised food supply.

This project will measure the economic, health, social and environmental impacts of a local food supply via a series of Victorian Case studies. It will involve an interdisciplinary team from two universities (La Trobe and RMIT).
