Feb 5 - China declares an emergency over a long, dry spell which is threatening crops and farmers' incomes in
central and northern China.
No rain or snow has fallen since November in the country's rural heartland, affecting over 40 percent of winter wheat sources, and officials are irrigating land to save crops.
China's national Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief says this is a severe drought rarely seen in history.
