This video was created by the iamcreoleNetworks founder, Elroy Johnson "EJ". This video is talking about the two unique cultures of Louisiana and their differences and how they became so "alike" but yet different. This video was made to showcase the two wonderful cultures and their history, the Cajuns and the Creoles.

  • LET'S DEBUNK A MYTH RIGHT NOW! Persons of African and French decent are not JUST in Louisiana. France RULED Southern Mississippi for about 100 yrs after Spain had built and ruled it. It were the French (Not Spain) who first brought slaves to Mississipp from the islands. We do not count it ONLY OUR HISTORY like in Louisiana or an advantage. Mississippi History is very glorious, and it belongs to all USA blacks. It was Spain, then France, the Spain then the "Good Ole English Boys!"

  • @mrbilingual Not just Mississippi and Louisiana but 1/3 of this country was apart of France's rule, the original Louisiana territory went all the way up to Minnesota. But, the culture and heritage of Louisiana Creoles today is tied into Louisiana, mainly because the rest of the old Louisiana territory wasn't as populated prior to the Americans, so when the Anglos came in, they began to dominate quickly. However, Southern Louisiana still holds its original populations strongly.

  • The flag behind you is throwing me off. If it is from Haiti then that is altogether another group of Creoles. Cajuns were assisted by blacks during and after slavery, for the white man hated them more than anyone else. As American moved more into the color scheme, they got more accepted. Not all Cajuns are white, so do not let them play that game on you.

  • @mrbilingual it is the Louisiana Creole flag created in the 1980s by some Louisiana Creoles of an organization in southwest Louisiana. There is also an Acadiana flag, the flag that represents the 22 Southern Parishes of South Louisiana that has a French heritage culture (Cajun/Creole). I have that one as well, and will do a video with that in the background in the near future.

  • Are all Cajuns white?

  • @cdub153340 In Louisiana Cajun has become known as a White identifier, and Creole as White, Mix, and Black identifier. But, it is all culturally based, Cajuns who claim Acadian ancestors are French-Canadians by ancestry....Creoles claim everything from European and African.

  • so using the African slavery as the beginning of our people's history is inaccuarate. However, our culture is very African based, and we are proud of it!

  • @yannicrouchemcdonald I am talking about Louisiana Creoles, I am no expertise in other Creole cultures/countries. I said this because many think our Louisiana Creole started in Haiti, or is a product of somewhere but, I inform it started in Louisiana, hence LOUISIANA Creole :)

  • @iamcreole you are historically accurate except for one thing. It sounded like you said Cajuns were kicked out of Canada for religious beliefs. Although that is true, (Cajuns have a strong Catholic history and still are, British are Anglican), but it was mostly due to the inability of a French settler to bow down to a British crown. My family came to America before Cajuns, (technically Creole), but culturally we're closer to Cajuns than Creole. Nice video telling the history of the cultures!

  • Cajuns are the Acadians who were exiled from Acadia (Now known as Nova Scotia) They have a more historical relation with people from Quebec (when they were exiled, the French who did not go to Louisiana founded Quebec). Creole were the original french settlers directly to Louisiana, usually having intermarriages with Native Americans and Africans

  • creole by definition means mixed ancetry and culture. Cajun is a corruption of the work Acadie meaning a person from Acadia canada. The cajuns were exiled when the english took over canada from ffrance

  • I am a born and raised Creole, language customs and all & the French language spoken here in Louisiana(and also in nearby Mississippi & Texas), have more to do with French ownership of Louisiana before the American purchase of it! It's not a French that stemmed from African lineage! That would imply that Creoles are simply, black Louisiana natives! NOT ALL BLACKS IN LOUISIANA ARE CREOLE! Most Creoles are a plethora of different ethnicities, (variations of black, white, Spanish, European etc. .
