This glorious art deco number was shot to be used in the abandoned musical epic The March Of Time in 1930. The sequence was later recycled and used in the short Nertsery Rhymes featuring The Three Stooges.

  • I guess there is no way to know, but is this female singer Carlotta King ?

A year before she was in The Desert Song. I have seen the 1929 show, and this sure does sound like her. She is also listed as having participated in The March Of Time, so is this her contribution?

  • Carlotta King... Not impossible! The two lead girls in this sequence are Beth and Betty Dodge who also did The Lock Step number.

  • I am referring to the female vocalist at the beginning, not the dancers. The man and woman walking backwards at the beginning of the clip.

I am sure this was just part of a bigger production number, with closeups of the mystery man and woman. Possibly with her holding a fan.

  • Oohh. I thought you meant the lady singing... OK I see what you mean, and you may be absolutely right. It's not the first time this happens. They only take the second half. The surviving bit of The Lock Step is also just the second half. the first half featured Austin "Skin" Young. Take a look at my upload of "Dust/The Hades Ballet" which also is a good example of this.

  • Gorgeous ! Seems to me that the costumes were either designed by Erté or heavily inspired by his designs.

  • DELICIOUS ! ! !

  • Very beautiful. I had no idea that they were the Dodge Twins!

  • What elegance and attention to detail. Wondrous.

  • Thanks again from a Ted Healy and 3 stooges fan. Love the color. We discovered this and The Woman In The Shoe from Nertsery Rhymes.
