Anyone know what the "Jones Law" is, and why it would be giving them the blues? All Google turned up was the "Jones Act" of 1920, which required ships going between US ports to be US built, and staffed and owned by US citizens.
Anyone know where this song got it's title??

@4freespeech It was by design.

Texas born Guitarist/trombonist/inventor Eddie Durham, brought Basie in this Band. Basie could not read or write music, so it was Durham's charts transforming this and many other Bands. When Moten died, Basie was voted leader and he self titled the Band. When Durham left, the Band flopped until Durham came back in 1935 & wrote TOPSY, etc. for them. Search HITTIN THE BOTTLE See DurhamJazz. com I might have my dads charts actually... join the website & send an email. Topsy Durham.

i am a great admirer of Bennie Moten's work, and I think this posting is superb.
Thank you for sharing.
Man, THIS IS BLUES! Reminds me of a swinging New Orleans funeral procession.
Wish some young musicians would pick up this style. There were a few promising trombone & tuba players in N.O. before Katrina but appears FEMA chased 'em out for good, (DAMN THEIR EYES!)
After '05 N.O. is about 90% white people, (looks that way anyhow).
Anyhow great stuff. We got a good many Benny Moten records.
