Enterprise IT staff and users commonly disable the power management settings on their computers, wasting large amounts of electricity. Ben Kus, senior director of technology at BigFix, shows how centralizing these settings can save energy and money.
So would you tell me this? how much would it normally costs me for leaving my computer on all day 24 hrs a day for a month, my local rate is at €0.16c per KW/h.
Just a normal PC. tower, Monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Greenhouse gasses do have an effect on climate and CO^2 is part of this equation. Everyone talks about going "green". Do these people really believe that using less paper in the work place will have an dent on helping the environment. What about all that toilet paper and paper towels that are used. At least shut down the computers and start helping the planet.
I agree. It is cheaper powering off your computer, it is cheaper stopping driving your car... and it is more eco ;) BUT! Everything is with purpose... As you said not turning off your computer saves you time, driving your car saves you time. Sometimes time is more expensive and it is worth. Have you thought that breading also emits CO2? Should I stop breading or should i do my non-eco job? This is more complex than simply powering off PCs and there are people to deal with the problem.
