@Chiimokosan Why see it so negatively? Appropriating parts of a language shows an appreciation for it. Would you yell at Japanese people for saying "Hello kitty" if they weren't fluent in English?

And actually, a lot of Japanese people that I have met in Japan enjoy even the smallest attempts to relate to them through language. I have found the same in France. Sure, probably not everyone would react the same, but "society would hate you" simply generalizes Japanese people to your own feelings.

just saying things like "kawaii"...it doesn't make you a weeaboo. how about when japanese girls say to each other "hihi" or "bye bye"? no one cares?

on an unrelated note, u kno you've been studying japanese for too long when you know what "desu" means in japanese, but not in english. :D
