Railfanning Raleigh, NC 8/22/08: Amtrak 80, NS 350, CSX F741

Another nice day @ Waffle House. The addition of my new Traintenna helped me hear a lot more radio chatter. Sorry about 80's video being a little shaky; I had just gotten there as 80 was coming by (ontime!). I believe 350 gave me some sort of shave and a haircut. Can anyone identify the horn on F741? Once it had passed me, it sounded like a GEVO off in the distance.

Can you tell me whose mainline that is? Is it NS or CSX or is is shared track rights?

@tdluvs it is a joint CSX/NS line. NS owns and maintains the track that Amtrak 80 and NS 350 are on, and CSX owns and maintains the track that CSX F741 is on. A train of either railroad can run on either track. Essentially, it is a shared double track railroad between Fetner and Boylan.

What is there to see at this location? Q174, Q438 NS 211&213?

oh no, Raleigh is in between the 2 big east coast mainlines, we're lucky to see 15 trains a day on both RRs...those are all A-Line and Crescent Route trains

@csxcw44ac The Norlina-Weldon line was abandoned in 1983 and SAL main from Norlina to Petersburg went in 1987

there's no connection @ Rocky Mount, the SAL used to run Norlina-Weldon which is abandoned now, so that would be the east-west link
