Add &fmt=18 to the end of the web address for Hi-Def. Using a Mic to record your amp is a great idea...until you need to be very quiet and monitor on headphones only. My solution is "The Junction" Palmer PDI-09 DI Box. The Cabinet Simulator is on Bright and the attenuation is -10db since the Princeton doesn't have 30+ watts. I used a DMP3 preamp to warm up the line out signal a bit as well, and it is recorded with the Zoom H4, using AKG K81DJ headphones into the H4 to monitor.

The first run is dry, no effects. The second run is with the Deluxe Memory Man's delay. The third run is with the Deluxe Memory Man's chorus and the Princeton's onboard tremolo unit. All of these sound great and I can totally live with these to practice with in quiet. However, check out the last sample, the Palmer doesn't take to distortion that well- at least the kind provided by a Big Muff! Ends up sounding transistory, oh well. I'll try to get a more natural OD going with the Princeton and an attenuator once my spare speaker cable arrives.

  • are you connecting the extension output to PDI09 input? and is the speaker connecting to PDI thru? when your amp is connected to PDI, does the sound come out from the amp or the monitor?

  • @shayaguitar the Junction goes between your amp's Speaker Out and the speaker. There is an additional Line Out to your recording device. This way, the sound comes out of both the amp and the recorder/monitor. If you don't want the speaker to sound out, use an attenuator on full load - I use the Weber Mass to do that for silent recording.

  • Earlier I said it sounds thin, after watching it again I noticed the volume is almost at zero, and the treble is maxed while the bass is at zero. This the only way to get a decent Fender tube amp to sound this bad. Redo with normal amp settings.

  • @lindseyblair Yep, this was before I got an attentuator for a dummy load. Meaning, if I wanted to have pipsqueak levels outside of the D/I, I had to turn way down on the amp. I highly recommend getting a dummy load going so you can crank your amp in complete silence, and get the optimum signal going into your D/I.

  • awesome. So you think that Memory man is the key fot his soound? Important technician sometimes criticize memory man because it eats original tone.

  • There are some things that you just have to use the Memory Man for, but yes it sucks tone.

  • Sounds like the guitar is not great, really

  • Sounds thin

  • I have heard from a few (in the mix) that the Palmer junction works awesome for sweet rock lead tones and not too good for rock rhythms. I would like to get one for leads and a behringer ultra g for rhythms, IF I can verify the quality of tones I would get from them. Great vid, thanks!

  • Ya, but i try to distance myself from anything marshall. Its to common, well so is fender? O well i still like fender better :-P
