Being a frequent visitor to a zoo has only one drawback. You become very attached to each and every animal.
And when one is moved to another zoo, or when one dies, you feel very sad, no matter what age you are.
I have seen this Victorian crowned pigeon so many times, watched him flirt with the female, take the necessary steps to start or add more offspring to his family, take turns sitting on the egg in the nest, and help care for a newly hatched chick until it was ready to be independent.
And each time I visit the McNeil Avian Center, I will remember all that.
This video was recorded about three weeks ago. Unfortunately, he died unexpectedly a few days ago.
But he had a healthy life, and received the best possible care throughout all his time at the Zoo.
OMG :( Rest in peace, he was so beautiful.
