Briefly, considering the continuity of the signal to the GPS. This was leaving Wash DC Union Station en-route to NYC.

  • What is the name and price of that GPS?

  • Magellan Meridian It has been disco'd since 2004 but they are still on Craigslist and Ebay for a good price. I think I paid 250$ for the package back then but I think used they ar under $100. Still a good deal considering you can upload maps which are not the cartoon quality like the Tom Tom.

  • I have that same GPS, does it work good on train trips?

  • So far it has, I got the last firmware update awhile back and once it stopped booting up, I called Thales and they got right back to me with an email firmware fix. The windows on most trains are a little tinted so it may have some effect on reception. I found an online newsgroup that showed how to upload multiple regions onto the memory card so as long as you keep each upload at the maximum limit and rename the state or region, you can put as much as the card will allow.

  • I'm sorry, but your GPS device is not correct. The speed limit (not including Auto Train) in CSX territory is 79mph.

  • You need to expand the "About this video" box. It describes where I'm at.

  • I can tell you I rode the Carolinian up from NC to DC we were doing 70, so when we went electric in DC up to Trenton NJ it was 90+ maybe even 100 at most time so I believe you @icom1020

  • @tallflguy Wrong, 110 is the max speed for this train; the Metroliners go 125. The Acela goes up to 150 in some sections and 130 in others.

  • That's very fast!

  • all the amtrak diesel locos are geared to run 103 max

  • The changeover to electric from steam and later diesel power has been a staple of urban American railroading since the beginning of the 20th century. Grand Central Station and Pennsylvania Station are monuments to the decision to prohibit fossil fuel burning locomotives from entering busy city rail corridors.

  • the reason why they switch from diesel to elctric with amtrak is because at penn sta. they dont allow diesels since they produce smoke and its underground and smoke+underground=smoke poisenig

  • I love these GPS videos in trains. Nice job.

  • You people don't know anything...The max limit for regionals is 125mph,The limit for acelas are 150mph(Up by kingston) and the limit for siver services are 110mph
