PLEASE COMMENT!!!!!!
The Southampton Community Band performs the National Anthem arranged by Jack Stamp. Comments and suggestions welcome... Keep in mind, this is a non-auditioned Community Band open to ANYONE who plays an instrument. So, in theory, your little sister, parents and grandparents could all be part of this Band. Enjoy!!

  • That. Was the worst I have ever Heard. You should feel ashamed. That is the easiest arrangment of that song, not to mention it mentions our counrty...

  • clarinetmike88- If you wouldn't mind, could you provide more concrete criticism to the video other than the 'Worst you've ever Heard' and telling us that we 'should feel ashamed?' As a community band, we're always looking to improve, but we'd like some specific critiques and constructive suggestions. Could you to respond again with a more intelligent comment, so we can use this info. for the improvement of our ensemble? Thanks,The Southampton Community Band

  • also, clarinetmike is wrong, it is not the easiest arrangement. The harmonies can be complex at times and it is a challenge to do such an well known song and play a completely different spin on it.

  • the balance of the band could be a little better. have your members listen for the melody line

When the trumpets come in for the slow part, make sure the counter melody in the hrns/sxs follow the dynamics correctly and not over power it.

Also, during this part, the baritones have nice suspensions, make sure they resolve in tune. This is a nice tension and release but won't come across that way unless in tune.

yeah, pick up the tempo at Heroic! like it is the regular version of SSB.

  • I have had the privilege of playing this under Gary Green from University of Miami and I think his interpretation is the best and I am also conducting it with a community band. The recording, I know, probably doesn't do your band justice since it is probably from the microphone on the camera. Here are some short critiques:

I don't think singing is intended with this version

When the trumpets come in, increase tempo! Heroic! it says

When the FHrns come in, it needs to pick up tempo just a bit.

  • Excellent rendition.......

  • Thanks guys...keep music in your community alive!

  • i played this at regional band a few weeks ago and i got to have jack stamp as my host conductor for district band. if i could make any suggestions, i'd say to make the ending a little more dramatic. and not to have the trumpets play the eighth notes so staccato at the end. good job though :)

  • hey it sounds a little bit imuture so to speak. i dont think its a band problem, its more of an individual problem

everyone needs to practic there insturement at home and the band will sound better as a whole,

  • How much do you really know about arrangements of the Star Spangled Banner? If you are such an aficionado of Star Spangled Banners and their levels of difficulty, where would you say the Stamp version lies in relationship to the Kinyon, Swearingen, Story, or Murtha arrangements. Also, how can you question someone's adoration and respect for their country and flag by the quality of a musical performance? What constructive comments to you have about the performance?
