Tribute to king Harold II, last Anglo-saxon ruler of England. Photos and videos were taken on the fields of Battle where two armies had clashed in 1066 except the Bayeux tapestry animated video.

  • One problem is the music. It keeps mentioning 'Odin' and 'Valhalla' In fact Harold Godwinson and most of his people were Christians not pagans.

  • That's right but it's problem with Manoawr that they sing only about pagans. I reply mentioned about music and lyrics in response to jupes70 a page before. Thank you for the comment.

  • I think a tribute shouls be made of the last Saxon King, Egbert,he was put on the throne whilst William made his way to London, he spent his life trying to get his throne back. He died at over 80 yrs of age

  • that's right. I admire him. He's life was a constant struggle.

  • is the tv thing from a movie???? if it is, wich 1`????

  • It's a part of a movie which you can see on the museum's exhibition in town Battle (where battle of Hasting took place)

  • @starryian007 They may have converted to Christianity, but many folk still held true their old Beliefs. In fact Christianity has only overlaid Pagan/Heathanism. Many of the Traditions of Christianity have been stolen from the old Religions............notably Easter [Eostre] and Christmas [Yule]

  • @Romannelli1 Yes as many do today, but that does not alter the predominant and ever growing concept in the 11th century of Christianity. Paganism and it's central beliefs was now associated with the horrors that came with the Vikings. They were now the pariahs of the known world and soon to become a spent force.

Imagine, if you will today being a communist - still prevalent in some quaters but terribly anachronistic and out of date, as were most paganistic pratices and the belief in 'Valhalla'.

  • Sometimes i think about what England could have been like if we had won. but i wouldn't go back and change it ( The Butterfly Effect) etc. In the Norman scripts the size of the Saxon army is obviously over estimated. How can you force march 8000 men 185 miles fight a battle, then return with the same number?

  • meroyn - I think you mean Edgar, the Aetheling (Prince), who as you say, was briefly proclaimed king by some of the surviving English nobles, and held London against The Bastard (as William was known!), who was forced to then make an encircling movement around the capital. Fully agree with the sentiments re Harold, he deserves much better recognition.

  • We should of won at Hastings if only we didnt get fooled into running after the Normans ...

  • Harold Godwinson was indeed a brave and courageous man. He stood not for himself or for his own gain - like William 'the bastard' did. He stood for England. Harold is a true English hero. Mistreated by history and maligned by Norman propaganda. Harold's rightful place can now be claimed as one of the true English heroes.

  • can somebody send me the lyric of this song, can find it....

    thanks!
