......so only fair way to conclude this argument is to say Hogan was the best of his era, Nicklaus the best of his, and Tiger is the best of the current era.

Those posted negative feedback are idiots!!! They failed to turn their game into their professional career or not be able to enjoy the game and got jealous just like those idiot TV commentators on golf channel. Most of them are failed to be great in their game and try to find something else to feed their family; except, I have respected to the only two: Faldo and Miller.

Ben Hogan was the finest golfer to EVER play the game. If not for the 4 yrs in the service and the bus accident that almost killed him his record would have been beyond compare. After the accident in 1949 he lost a year of golf than only played in 4-6 events a year mostly majors and won most of them. He is the only pro to win the 1st 3 Majors in the same year. The PGA event was scheduled 2 weeks after the British Open & Hogan had to travel by ship from England and there was no time to enter.

I agree Nicklaus was the best, but I also think that Tom Watson was a close second.

Easy for Hogan to say to use the lower half of your body, the guy obviously had a ridiculous trunk/core. For those of us less fortunate with chicken legs, like myself, have to rely more on upper... back to the squat rack.

Though Hogan probably was not quite the best golfer ever (no one compares to Tiger in terms of what he can do with a golf ball) he inarguably had the best swing ever. It's simply the best technical swing ever.

Mr. Hogan NEVER lost his swing from 1941 to 1971. He never shot over 289 or finished out of the top 10 in a US Open between 1941 and 1956. That's over 60 years ago. Want to put it in perspective? Tiger Woods has failed to break 290 THREE times just since turning pro in 1997 and has finished out of the top 10 SEVEN times. Think it was more difficult to break 290 60 years ago? If you know anything about golf the answer is WAY more difficult because of the technology difference.

Basically Hogan was trying to do S&T but he basically did not fully achieve it. This is why he would lose his swing for periods of time.

No, Mr. Hogan, we don't mind. We could watch you hit golf balls all day long. Notice how Mr. Hogan marries his right elbow to his right hip during the initial phase of his downswing. Start the downswing with the lower body and marry that elbow and hip, and not much can go wrong. Genius!
