Despite popular belief, black bears are actually a very timid animal, and will rarely show aggression, even when it has far more superiority.

@TheAnn1948 Do you suggest the woman abandon that child to save that cat? I highly doubt that you would run outside and come face to face with a bear. Besides, all that cat has to do is run under that porch or car where the bear can't reach.
