Released in Australia in 1966 reaching #12 Sydney #19 Melbourne #11 Perth.
Melbourne band The Loved Ones, formed in October 1965, were one of the shining lights of Australian pop music in the wake of the British Invasion. Their output wasn't enormous, but at least three of their original songs, all written by band members, are classics of the beat/r&b era: The Loved One (their biggest hit), Everlovin' Man and Sad Dark Eyes. Three of the members had been with the Red Onion Jazz Band prior to this. Vale Gerry Humphrys - a great clarinet player and not all that bad as a singer..

By far the best version of this song. They were an iconic Australian group that for some unknown reason never took off - the few songs they put out were great.
