Hartwig Kremer Shares a Vision for Global Change Research

Dr. Hartwig Kremer shares his perspective on the ICSU Visioning Process, a global initiative to assess and restructure the global environmental change scientific community. Explaining the importance of human actions and behavior in global environmental change, from cause to prevention to adaptation. His ideas express the importance of a human-centric perspective that integrates all scales and modules of society from individuals to governments.

Dr. Hartwig Kremer is the chief executive officer of the Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone project, which is a core research project of both IHDP and the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). Since 2006 he is based at the GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht GmbH where he focuses on biological and physical oceanography, fisheries, marine zoology and trace metal analysis. Scientifically his focus is on the interplay of coasts and river catchments as changing socio ecological systems and the complex interaction between nature and human society on global and regional scale. He coordinates international scientific networking across the numerous LOICZ affiliated research projects, the regional branches of LOICZ and with UN and other intergovernmental organisations and projects, and teaches in various European Universities.

The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change provides international leadership in framing, developing and integrating social science research on global environmental change and promotes the key findings of this research in the policy and scientific fields to help address environmental challenges.
