Nice armchair copy of Steve, KB0USA while running 5 watts into 20 meter dipole near Bennington, VT. Rig is a Yaesu FT-817ND, battery is a 9 AH SLA (heavy sucker), feedline is generic RG-8X, antenna wire is THNN 14 GA Copper Stranded. Note the Passband notch function to help eliminate tuning heterodynes. The FT-817 is a very capable rig, only mod is the W4RT "OBP" Speech Compressor.

  • Do you have the aftermarket speech processor installed or is that "stock"?

  • @SDagia

Not for this contact, but I have since modified the mic with the W4RT OBP and I haven't had the chance to compare with an RX station yet. It seems to work as I've tried pileups with and without, and with, seems to work better.

  • Great contact! Thanks for sharing. I will be sharing this video with students in my Technician class.

  • @SDagia I am alos

  • @KA1YBS OK, Thanks. I've been contemplating one over the 703+ for camping

  • Nice view and awesome location for playing radio!

  • QSO from VT are just the best. I think central VT has probably the least QRM.

  • good qso!
