This is a video showing how EverQuest 2 runs in Linux for me. It's running on WINE 1.1.17 and Ubuntu 8.10. In Windows I was victim to the "Application Out of Memory Error" annoyance, but running EverQuest 2 in Linux completely stopped the problem. It runs great, looks great, and there's nothing I can really complain about except not being able to change the resolution (which I'm sure can be fixed). Thanks for watching and feel free to leave a comment.

  • This is a pretty cool video. I remember when people were talking about running EQ2 on Linux under WINE. Even though I'm a hardcore Windows Lover I can appreciate the amount of time and dedication it took to make this video possible. I did notice in your video you're calling a level 47^ non-heroic a heroic. FYI If the mob was a heroic it would say Level 47 Heroic. Also a white star to the name in the Target Window means you’re attacking a NPC that will give you AA. Great Video!

  • @SequelFinalNight Yeah I hadn't played EQ2 in a while before I made this video and they had changed some things that I hadn't known about. Also the video didn't take very long to make at all =)

  • Saleno - What linux app did you use to record this demo? (just curious)

  • @thegougeman RecordMyDesktop

  • When i tried to run it on ubuntu hardy i couldn't get it to work. So i had to go back to windows. My nvidia is a 7600 GS 256mb. What it did for me was distorted all the textures and i only had 1 FPS. I'm Eschia on EQ2 on the forums. You probably saw my post on the linux topic where i included a screenshot.

  • Well that was a while ago, as the WINE and Linux community have quick development. Try Wubi Installer and see if you can get it working in 8.10 and WINE 1.1.19. We have similar graphics cards (7800 GTX) so you may have similar results.

  • dude u need to buy pets? for real money?

  • Uff, honestly guys, if you want to do something right, just do it the nativ way. Playing with stuff, that has been reverse eng. or things that will break with a simple patch or give you crazy, nutts, mad framerates and such will only give you headaches. In the end you will be spending more time making things simply work, paying more for upgrades to get up to native speed and reading a bunch of things how to make it work, only for it to not work a few months later. Just vote for native stuff.
