This is a tutorial for the guitarsolo on the newly released opeth tune "The Lotus Eater". As no note sheets or how-to-play video has been put out for this solo, I cant guarantee it's correct. It is taken by ear, and I'm pretty sure all the notes are correct. Not so sure about the finger positionings tho, but this works fine =)

Getting alot of questions about the guitar. It doesnt have a brand. Got some guys to carve out the body and neck in the material and shape that I wanted, and then ordered hardware from american website. Got a workshop in my basement, so put it together there.
Specs: Mahogny neck and body, brazilian rosewood fretboard, flame marple top, DiMarzio Dsonic and Evolution pickups, both split with a push-push-potmeter, Floyd Rose bridge, and some other snack =)

Also: please take a look at my other vids. Espescially "A Family Fives Father" and "Maria Wonderful", as they are my own compositions. Would love some feedback on those =)

  • what scales does opeth use?

  • @onixtheone Im not really sure m8 :p As far as I know, Michael does not know too much music theory, and mostly play by ear. He might be playing in some scale, but I'm not sure if he knows which one it is:p I might be wrong tho :P

  • Your guitar has a beautiful tone.

  • @ThunderBullitt It's a good mix between a well built guitar and Line6 Guitar Port. The guitar is a warmoth, check out their website :) They allow you to choose what wood to build your guitar from. Alot of tone to gain from that^^ DiMarzio Evo and DSonic in bridge.

  • how did you get that tone is it the pickups?

  • @onixtheone 1/2 is pickups and guitar body. Rest is the line6 guitar port :) Pickups are DiMarzio Evolution and DSonic :)

  • @AndreasDahl87 actually your right =|

and this fact makes me wanna commit suicide x[

THIS GUY IS A FUCKING GENIUS YET HE HASN'T STUDIED ANY ACTUAL MUSICAL THEORY, I MEAN, FUUUUUUUUCK x[

  • thanks for the vid, i learned it by ear and i guess i transcribed the arpeggio part really awkwardly, so i thought there's got to be a easier way to play it :p

but its still pretty tricky to get it sounding nice and fluent
