1979 Sabine Baesz / Tassilo Thierbach Worlds/Germany

Sabine and Tassilo stepped into the breach left by an injury to the top East German pair (Manuela Mager and Uwe Bewersdorf) to claim a World bronze medal with a very expressive program. They had trouble in the Olympic short program, missing an overhead lift, but would later become World Champions in 1982(Copenhagen), after a silver in Hartford (1981)

@nondescriptnyc I did not mean to imply that Baess/ Theirbach landed a throw 3 toe loop here in Vienna. They did not. I know that they landed one at the 1980 Worlds in Dortmund. I never did see their performances at the 1980 Europeans or DDR nationals that season , so I am not sure if they had landed in those competitions. They did omit it from their 1980 Olympic long.

@peppe201 If I remember correctly, I don't think they attempted a throw 3T at this competition. Had a slight slip on the opening throw 3L, she fell of SBS 2A, etc. etc., and this wasn't a very strong performance--albeit stronger than Vorobieva/Lisofsky.

They were the first pair to land a throw triple toe loop in competition. Unfortunately, as well as having trouble with the overhead lift in the 1980 Olympic short, they also had mistakes at the 1984 Olympics, he singled his 2 loop jump in the short and finished in 4th place in the short and overall.
