Great Spanish, "controversial" tenor, Miguel Fleta (1897 1938) - my favourite artist, sings "Amapola". VERY EARLY recording made for Victor, 6 Jan 1925, still acoustic !

In my present two postings I did not intend to show the whole story of the Song, now aging ca. 90 years, nor its numerous and "fabulous" threads or curves in later years.
I wanted to present two very early recordings, completely different in style, form, climate, yet musically valuable and having charm that may appeal to us still today.
Material so far not presented on YT.
And to which I have personally my special approach.

Sound transfer: NIMBUS Records, UK, 1997.

  • I love the uniform Comrade Miguel is wearing. it was 1937.....Cara al sol con la camisa nueva que tu bordaste en rojo ayer.

  • Gracias !

  • I always love it when someone asks me who I think is the greatest tenor ever. I get to say, "Oh, easily Miguel Fleta." to a response of "Who's that?!" No, not Caurso, not Corelli, although I love both, but Fleta. That he died so young is a such a tragedy.

  • Thank you !

  • Wonderful. I'll have to post more of him.

  • I'll be waiting with pleasure !

  • I love Spain and its people, let alone its talented individuals like Fleta. DO not ever forget that the 52.000 best sons of the world joined International brigades (incl. 8.000 from ex-Yugoslavia) to help proud spanish peple to defend democracy from fascist. Many of them left their bones in Spain. Ethernal Glory to their brave sacrifice.

  • @mstipich1 THIS IS THE FALANGE ESPAÑOLA UNIFORM (GENERALISIMO FRANCO ARMY)

THE INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES USED THE MOTHERFUCKER UNIFORM.
