If one farmer produces 3 times as much milk (In the US) he will get 3 times the profit, but only on the surface. Compiled with every other farmer in the country, if they all produce 3 times the milk, the price of milk will fall through the floor. Animal welfare is thrown out the window, and every expense is cut just to stay alive.
