1) Neil's first hearse, a 1948 Buick Roadmaster he nicknamed "Mortimer Hearseburg" a.k.a. "Mort", was the inspiration for his song "Long May You Run". The hearse actually broke down in June 1965, contradictory to the lyrics. Continued…

2) (Continued… ) According to Neil, quoted in interviews, the transmission fell out of this hearse as he was driving from Fort William to Sudbury. He had it towed to Bill’s Garage in Blind River, where he left it hoping the garage could find a replacement transmission. In the album liner of "Decade", Neil Young writes that this song is about his first car and his last girlfriend. IOW, the song is not JUST about a car, as certain lyrics make clear. In any case, this rendition of the song is the best one I've heard - not bad for performing in front of an audience of millions!
