@MRrogers91 please tell me what is so great about being open on Sundays. And whats so great about selling beer and alcohol? Whats wrong with "mom and pop" and something local and regional that supports its community through many charities? I guess being 21st century means selling poison and being open 7 days a week 24 hours a day and closing local businesses.

Ukrops and the 21st century where not meant to meet. The company ran on old mom and pop values and had some of the worst store locations being built right around and left virtualy in the dark ages it doesnt surprise me that the giant company ahold swallowed them alive. martins may not be as customer oriented as ukrops but at least they are opened on sundays. just shop at martins and get over the fact that religion and buisness dont mix.
The store was closed for a whole week, not forever.

@ryan17954 The cafe and bakery did not close, however Ukrop's as it was known in the past is no more.

@ryan17954 Also, partly, my over sentimentality is a joke.

People need to shop on Sundays too.
I work for AHOLD.
If it wasn't for them, Ukrops would have closed all 25 stores. They said that themselves Martins saved all those peoples jobs...
I came down for the conversion period for Carrytown. Our company invested billions of dollars into these stores. Ahold is your savior.

@ryan17954 I have nothing against the A-Hold company, I just feel that Ukrop's was a nice part of the community and locally owned and operated. If people wanted to shop on Sunday- they can go across the street to Kroger's. Aside from that, how is some big corporate conglomerate from PA a Savior to us? I support local and independent groceries.

I never heard of Ukrop's, but it sounds like a good store.
Evil alcohol though, Meade? Remember, the Bible even talks about using alcohol for stomach troubles and other ailments, and Jesus used it as well, so it can't be all bad. I think it is like money. A lot of people misread that statement of money being the "root of all evil", but that is not what it says, it is the "love of money" that is the root of all evil. I think it is the same way with the "love of alcohol" being bad.

@sterlingholobyte Yes, but Jesus turned it into unfermented wine. Alcohol is not bad in moderation, but the problem is , the temptation for most people is to drink in excess.
