  • Your video is surreal, almost like a horror film. I'm very impressed. I was in New Orleans last weekend, and I was amazed at how bad conditions still are outside of the downtown core. 530 days after Katrina, I saw entire neighborhoods in St. Bernard Parish that are still condemned, homelessness, and many other problems. I made a short video of what I saw, and I hope others like us will keep covering the rebuilding, since the mainstream media isn't.

  • thanks for the comment railfunny.

  • Incredible video.

  • i live roughly 30 miles north of Gulfport & rode out Katrina and its aftermath. this vid sent shivers up my spine. i don't think anyone will be able to capture the scope of the devastation in Miss'ippi. And while I'm glad New Orleans got the attention they did, I wish the media would've focused more on the Mississippi coastal counties.

  • Camille produced the exact same damage in 1969. The storm surge was a little less - 28 feet vs 24 feet but the winds were 215 mph instead of 140 mph. Camille killed 300; far more than Katrina. The wind caused most of the Camille damage as opposed to the water damage of Katrina. If Camille had hit in 2005, there would have been catastrophic damage instead of devastating damage. I was there.

  • What makes it even more chilling? Katrina weakened before making landfall. If it had hit at the point it reached about 1.5 days prior, and not turned slightly east...then New Orleans would no longer exist.
