Rare moment. Famous Sax player - James Carter gets down in sweats and a Santa hat at Bert's warehouse - Detroit. I'm curious..... What exactly is he doing here? And how is he breathing while hitting these notes?
@skoolboi109 I have used those reeds in the past and that is when I found out what a reed squeal/scrape was. It's not great for the reeds but it has a great effect. Normally WAY louder than normal playing in my experience.
@Brutecircuit he uses plasticover reeds, it would scrape the plastic off ( i use them and the plastic comes off easily). once that plastic comes off the reed is dead lol
but I've never heard of a teeth scrape.. might try it
I could be completely wrong but in the beginning it seems as if he is rapidly tonguing a multiphonic while simultaneously screaming. Then at the end (:22 onward) he is using a reed squeal by lightly touching his teeth to the reed. To get super high he scrapes his teeth on the reed from the heart to the tip. I have been studying this exact technique lately. Thanks so much for the post!
