People hunt them if they have cattle or horses. The prairie dog holes are dangerous and cause the livestock to break their legs. Personally I think the dogs are adorable and I'd love to have one, and I'd hate to see them killed.

@gibsonplayer12 Yes you can in Texas. Each state has it's OWN laws. Same with skunks. Many states allow them, Texas does not - or I'd own one. Trust me.
I'm thinking about a prairie dog. It's very weird to see it wrestling around with the big dog. That's awesome. I wonder if I can get mine to interact with me like that.
