First in a series of demos showing how to do some simple but very useful things in InfoPath. This demo shows how to auto populate values in fields based on a username and an external data source.

If you have suggestions of features you'd like to see demonstrated, please get in touch and I'll see what I can do.

  • Thank you so much for your demos they are really helpful... I would like to ask you a question please! In the database creation do I have to be connected to a server!

  • You have to be connected to wherever the database is at least the first time you open the form. You can set it to save the data in the template so you can still get the data when you're offline, but this would mean you wouldn't get updates, which almost defeats the point.

  • Well done ma lady :D

  • Thank you for this video, well done. I do have a question and perhaps you can assist me with this. I have a 'Name' field that is a drop down and the rest of the fields such as telephone, email and extension need to be auto-populated. I am a bit confused when managing the rules and was wondering if you might make a video explaining this. When I set my rules for Telephone it forces me to have @Fullname [@Telephone=@Telephone] please help, Thank you for your help. :)

  • JessMeats,

Good morning. Well done. We need some additional assistance. We have a simple MS Word 2007 form that we'd like to auto-populate - without a database or InfoPath. When a user enters their last name in a standalone Word form, we'd like that last name to auto-populate in additional Last Name fields across the document. How do we do this? Your expert help is appreciated.

  • Well done, helpful

  • The you so much for your reply Ms. Jess

I have a question regarding the way to use several tables in the form! how to connect a database with more than 1 table to the form
