This is why the TI-Nspire sucked for programming (well, until Feb 27 2010)

I made a loop with a counter in it that kept displaying on the screen and made it scroll on TI-81, TI-83 Plus, TI-89 Titanium and TI-Nspire calculators. Contrary to what people might think, the TI-Nspire was the SLOWEST OF ALL at executing it! The 83+ did it about twice faster (it would have been 5x faster, had I used Output instead of Disp) and both the TI-81 (to my great surprise, considering it runs a 3x slower z80 than the 83+) and TI-89 Titanium executed it about 10x faster than the Nspire and I am sure on the TI-89T it would also have been even faster if I used Output.

So if someone decides to buy a calculator to program on it, think again before choosing a TI-Nspire.

  • @madmax2069 when I wrote that post I had no idea something needed to be much more powerful to emulate something else. Sorry I was ignorant at the time. But what strikes me is odd is that if they are powerful enough to emulate a gameboy color, and they cost so much, why not put a decent display on them? It would help so much with the graphs.

  • @raney150 The TI-Nspire CX has a color display, but it no longer has 84+ emulation, prevents Ndless from running and the slidecase is sold separately. As for the old TI-Nspire you can run games like DOOM, but the display is indeed crappy, causing a lot of blurring.

  • What OS is that nspire? If it is 2.0, downgrade and try again

  • @sensitivebeat version 1.7

  • @DJOmnimaga Ohai, DJ, didnt realize it was you! Nevermind then... Ah, thats right, on 2.0 it's even slower (or it could just be my calc)

  • @sensitivebeat Wow even slower? Darn, is TI getting worse with the time? x.x

  • i want to see how fast my nspire cx can do this but i dont know how to do this program(im new to useing TI calculators)

  • The TI-Nspire has better graphics, so it is "slower". Look at the menu at the top and the slidebar on the right.

  • I'm digging the music from Super Nintendo Top Gear.

  • @raney150 they are far more powerful then the gameboy or gameboy color, that is why they can emulate a gameboy color.

do you even know what emulation is ? I take it that you do not.

notice how he said a gameboy color emulator and not finally reaching the power of a gameboy color.

Emulation requires the host computer to be on the order of magnitude faster then the hardware the host computer is going to emulate (depending on hardware architecture differences).

    please do your research.

  • nspire cas rules, let it see in 2 years

  • @2897ben it is exactly the same as the TI-84 and it is faster if you bought the newer ones in 2010, but Nspire CX/CAS is coming out LOVE COLOR SCREENS!!

  • @xxcapponxx Don't be too quick to judge man. If you switch keyboards you can get a fully operational ti-84. However I would like to see some statistics for a ti-nspire running with a ti-84 interchangeable keyboard. 0_o

  • I finally did the nspire ndless hack the gbc4nspire is great, I use it during class to play pokemon while everyone else is playing puzzle pack or something with mirageos. At least the gaming is better than the competition
