This is a little hypoxia training at the end of my workout. The gasmask restricts air intake which forces my lungs and diaphragm to work harder (which makes them stronger). It also duplicates training at higher elevation since I am breathing less oxygen. Hypoxia training on a regular basis will increase your bloods efficiency for oxygen delivery. Your sea level endurance will be improved. To make your lungs work harder, you can wear a weight vest or weighted pack. If you are feeling extra beast, you can do a Crossfit workout like Fran with a mask on. Sometimes you will see people using a snorkel and tape on their nose. This is also hypoxia training. (the white piece on my mask restricts airflow by about 65% on my mask which makes it much harder. Use tape on your mask to give you proper resistance. Just the mask alone is too easy.
