  • Corea and Hancock, brutalizing the ostinato. This is the sort of shit that happens once in a lifetime, if that.

  • Why being so strict? Corea and Hancock are jazz pianists. Bartók it's just an occasion of inspiration. It's like Picasso who "brutalized" Velázquez, Corot, Manet, etc. It's only art!

  • No, it's not a joke! The recording is taken from the album "Corea/Hancock" (Polygram Records) of 1978. Two pianos. The piece is largely recast in score, but the result is very incisive. I hope your shorts are dried now!!! =]

  • Epogdous: actually I meant my comment to be in the most positive of sentiments. It's a thoroughly savage piece, which doesn't really survive without being brutalied. And as others have said already, Corea and Hancock really are very able pianists, both. So while my choice of words might have been a bit off, I think they accurately reflected my emotion: holy fuck!

That's still the feeling. Especially since two-piano live recital of automatic rolls is nigh nonexistent.

  • Respond to this video... Did this this as one of my pieces for my grade 8 piano! Love their rendition of it lots. By the way, I passed...............smiles!

  • @Epogdous It is. I mean no disrespect. Quite the opposite in fact -- this is one of my all time favourite pieces, with Corea and Hancock two of my favourite jazz pianists.

  • In the film "Suddenly last summer", based on the Williams' play, you get a charming mental institution riot by the inmates, shown only by implication, those water hoses are out at the end. At any rate, if these guys were playing this right, it would make for a fine soundtrack for the riot...but, unfortunately, they are not playing it right...

  • @ssyreeni Bartok made this arrangement himself; 7 pieces for Mikrokosmos arr. for 2 pianos (google it), so no its no joke!!

  • 3 geniouses

    BELA BARTOK

    CHICK COREA

    HERBIE HANCOCK

Best Thing Ever!!! Love the changes to the score(although the original is great to) I'm sure Bartok would love it!
