I have bought six Western Digital Black Caviar 640GB Hard Drives. So far... two of those failed with the "BEEP BEEP BEEP OF DEATH" and one replacement drive from Western Digital has also failed in the same manner. That makes THREE drives failing the SAME WAY! You format the drive. Everything appears OK. Power down. Power back up and the drive will not spin up, but instead you are treated to what I call the "BEEP BEEP BEEP OF DEATH". I've done some research and it would appear to be a stuck spindle. I'm sending this one back for a replacement.

  • I would say: Buy a box, buy some flowers. Put the harddisk and flowers in box.

Go to your backyard and then dig a hole. Put the box in hole. Stamp on the box. Fill the hole again with sand. Dig the box up again after some days of raining. And look if ur flowers survived. Then take the harddisk and eat it. How to cook a harddisk: just 30 minutes in magnetron and put some ketchup and salt on it and then u have a tasty Hardburger.

  • are you serious????? the drive needs COOLING!! and inside that thing, it's overheating!! it's not the drive!! i've got 7months this drive and it's awesome!! you know why? cause i'm cooling the drive!!

  • lol its dubstep

  • Interesting, I've put 7 of these exact drives in rigs and they have had no issues. This is the 640gb sata 6gbps with 64mb cache right?

  • I agree that it must be a cooling issue, but I would say that it really must be getting VERY hot, because I had a WD640, albeit a Caviar Blue, running around 48 degrees for many months and it still works fine.

  • my hdd was making that sound!!! D:

but i just taped it and it was fine again

  • i'm starting to suspect that it may not be your HDD but your hardware that is at fault.

try the drive in a computer or change the hardware your using on it.

  • You sir just wasted your money on a $150 hand warmer.

  • Come to the store - tell to turn it on and then let them face it! Let produce better product!

  • yes i take wd and hear something too! beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeb
