As we all know, Apple decided to come out with their own version of multitasking in iOS4. The problem is that it's not "true" multitasking. In this tutorial, I will explain how to use Apple's multitasking bar with Backgrounder. This disables Apple's multitasking and replaces it with Backgrounder's multitasking.

This is great for older iDevices with 128MB RAM (iPod touch 1G, iPod touch 2G, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G) because they don't support Apple's multitasking but it will still work perfectly using this method.
----------------------------------------
Steps:

1. Open Cydia and download Backgrounder
2. Open Backgrounder and go to Global. Make sure "Backgrounder" is checked as 'Backgrounding Method' and "Fall Back to Native" is TURNED OFF
3. SSH into the directory: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app
4. Locate the N72AP.plist (or N82AP.plist)
5. Backup the .plist file. Edit your .plist in any text editing software and add the following key after {dict} and before {/dict}:

{key}multitasking{/key}
{true/}

Replace { and } with the rotated ^ (SHIFT + comma key and SHIFT+ period key)

6. Copy the newly edited .plist file back to the directory on your iDevice (OR save it if you edited it straight from your SSH client) and REBOOT.
7. Open Cydia and download a package, "Remove Recents".
8. Respring (or reboot if you don't know how to respring).

  • computer theme?

  • @iProApocaLypsE Sorry, I don't remember.

  • Works great. But you need to also mention that when you install Remove Recents, you have to go into settings and set 'Recent Apps Icons' to 'Remove'. Its default setting is 'Transparent'. This was the icons will go away if you don't background an app. Otherwise the apps that are not backgrounded will still appear on the multitasking bar, but they will be transparent. I also change the 'Close Method' to a red minus instead of a black X. But that is a personal preference.

  • @jeffreyrh Thanks for bringing that up. I actually didn't know about that because at the time of this video, there weren't settings for it in the Settings.app.

  • Explain this to me, so proSwitcher never worked on Ipod's because proSwitcher was dependent on the multitasking package, and that was disabled via N72AP.plist, and all you did was re-enable it, correct?

  • @graboy12345 No... this video shows how to use Apple's multi-tasking dock with Backgrounder. The reason why I changed N72AP.plist is because some devices have multi-tasking disabled by default meaning you can't get the multi-tasking bar. If you enable the feature in the .plist file, you'll be able to get the multi-tasking bar.

  • thanks my friend, this solved my problem, i was searchin for it.

  • @Reddish97 Download the package called iFile from Cydia and then you can browse the files on your iPod with your iPod. You then can edit the document and just restart or respring

  • how did u get your windows like that?

  • Tried this on the iPad2 but the directory and files are different. What are people using on the iPad2 to remove recents?

  • Nice videocopilot preset for your intro. lol

  • @Annntonnni multifl0w's for sure the best!
