One of Nickelodeon's biggest shows, with an appeal over an incredibly large cross-section of viewers, was Avatar: The Last Airbender. When you couple a big-name kids' show with great storytelling and a huge following with the rolling slow-motion train wreck that is M. Night Shyamalan, you get The Last Airbender, coming to theatres July 2010.

The Last Airbender will send us out with Aang, the last of the Airbender race and heir to the great legacy of Avatars, masters of all four elements. Aang ventures forth along with some familiar friends to defeat the grasping Fire Nation, masters of the fire element who have conquered most of the planet. Check out the trailer.

Will the Avatar movie manage to carry enough support from its audience to be a hit? Or will audiences stay away from another M. You're 100% correct. The Avatar world has no China, Japan or Korea in it. It is fiction. But think about it. Lord of the Rings has no "Europe" in it, yet pretty much all the characters are caucasian. How do we know this? Culture - the Elves are so Nordic and Celtic it'd be ridiculous NOT to cast European actors.

Similarly, in Avatar, the culture, architecture, religion is ALL ASIAN AND INUIT. It just wouldn't make sense to have white actors playing the characters.

forget about the cast there’s no clear identity of animals in the show. I am not cool with a Bear AND a Platypus being combined, or a seal / tiger, Koala Otter, Turkey-Goose, this is species-washing. In the film a bear has to be normal and needs to be from Russia and a koala needs to be from Australia
