A great movie, vintage Newman. The rest of the cast also gives outstanding performances as well from the more noted supporting actors such as Willis, Griffith and Tandy down to the smaller parts such as the druggist, the barmaid, the chief of police, etc.
This is one role Newman should have one best Actor for, if not others earlier in his career prior to 'The Color of Money'.
