This is a new upload to let people hear Tom Lehrer's spoken intro to The Vatican Rag. It is also uploaded to celebrate religious holidays. The old 4:3-version will also stay on the channel. Over the years a lot of people have been offended by this song, also on YouTube.

Lehrer said "OK" to "The Tom Lehrer Wisdom Channel" on YouTube, as long as the performance is not altered and as long as it's free in the YouTube flash video format.

Click on the user name and visit the channel's front page. The channel is Lehrer only. And here is a link to a NEW channel support page:

thornewood, thank you so much, yes, I feel that he really is. One thing is his impeccable satire, comic talent and great musicality, but he also managed to write satirical songs with a (deservedly) LONG life :-)

I just discovered this guy. Brilliant satirist! His songs are still quite relevant too.

I too always thought it was a sin to eat a man on Friday. I find Saturday much more rewarding.

I just noticed for the first time, I makes a little mistake in this, but superb recovery. If that doesn't make a man fit for a stage, nothing does.

We need more Tom Lehrers in this world. Not only was he off the charts genius, but man talk about playing the piano! More so, his topics are very relevant and would be 'politically incorrect' by some today. C'mon, free speech. Someone today should make music like he did.

We sure were Catholic as was he. My dad was raised by nuns as a young child. He had a great sense of humor about the church. My mother was alarmed when my dad started to play the song, but relieved shortly afterward.

Thank you so much for posting these tracks.

TL is a big hearted genius, for sure, but what makes these songs even better, is that the big hearted genius, Dr Tom Lehrer is still very much among us (he's 83, and as sparklingly witty as ever). And poignantly, many of his songs still feel very relevant today. Viva Dr Lehrer! xxx

Lehrer has said of his musical career, "If, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while."

That "Ave Maria, gee it's good to see ya." line kills me every time! LOL Reminds me of morning Mass with the little old rosary-praying ladies (and men!) That's how they *always* greet people they don't see every day: "Gee, it's good to see ya!"

Hmmm...I'm a Zappa freak and I always wonder "did Zappa like this guy, did he like that guy?..." I've never considered Lehrer before! No doubt Zappa dug Lehrer.
