Prince William and Kate Middleton finally cemented a ten-year relationship that began at St Andrews University, Scotland, by tying the knot at Westminster Abbey on Friday (April 29) in front of family and friends.
Royal enthusiasts, some of whom have been camped out since Tuesday (April 26) this week, cheered on the couple along the route, as Union Jack flags waved in the wind and marching bands paraded.
Westminster Abbey filled with wedding guests, including footballer David Beckham and his fashion designer wife Victoria. David, wearing his OBE medal, waved to cheering crowds gathered on the streets outside the Abbey as he waited among the other guests to take his seat inside.
Joining the VIP list of guests to greet the crowds were singer-songwriter Elton John and partner David Furnish who recently became the proud parents to a baby boy named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. Other visiting royalty including Crown Prince Albert II of Monaco and fiancee Charlene Wittstock attended, as well as British Prime Minister David Cameron and wife Samantha.
Kate's mother Carole Middleton and brother James, who later gave the only reading during the service from the Bible (Romans 12: 1-2, 9-18, declaring: ''Let love be genuine''), arrived to greet the clergy before proceedings began.
Then came the first sighting of one of the newlyweds-to-be, groom Prince William, who sat calmly sat beside his brother and best man, Prince Harry, in a chauffeur-driven car on route to the Abbey. The groom waved at well-wishers and seemed relaxed.
On arrival at the Abbey, William saluted dignitary, and greeted the clergy, before chatting to guests and taking his place at the altar with his best man by his side.
William's father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived next and waved to the waiting crowds.
Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, were next to journey to the Abbey, with trumpets sounding the monarch's arrival. Dressed in a yellow suit, the Queen greeted the clergy, before taking her seat.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for -- the first glimpse of the dress and the royal bride, Kate, as she got into a waiting Rolls Royce outside The Goring Hotel, where the bridal party had spent the night, accompanied by her proud father, Michael Middleton.
Designed by British designer Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, Kate's ivory dress with lace appliqué floral detail resembles that worn by Grace Kelly, the late Princess of Monaco.
The lace bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based in Hampton Court Palace. Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace was used throughout the bodice and skirt. The veil is made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, also by the Royal School of Needlework.
The radiant bride waved at well-wishers along the way to the Abbey, and on arriving, was greeted by her sister and bridesmaid Pippa Middleton, who wore a simple ivory dress, also designed by Burton, of heavy, ivory satin-based crepe, with a cowl front and with the same button detail and lace trims as the Bride's dress.
With a last-minute adjustment of her train by her attentive bridesmaid, both outside and inside the historic building, Kate walked down the aisle on her father's arm to her waiting royal husband-to-be.
After singing the famous Welsh hymn, 'Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah', Kate and William stood before Dr. Rowan William, The Archbishop of Canterbury, to take their vows.
They declared themselves to each other, but there was a brief pause when William seemed to have difficulty getting the wedding band on his bride's finger.
The Archbishop of Canterbury then pronounced them man and wife before the congregation -- from then on to be known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and blessed their marriage with Christianity's 'The Lord's Prayer'.
The congregation, accompanied by the London Chamber Orchestra, then sang the hymn 'Jerusalem', before the trumpets sounded for the UK national anthem, 'God Save The Queen', which the quests sang, expect the Queen herself.
The happy couple signed the register in front of family members in a private area of the Abbey, before re-emerging and bowing/courtesying to the Queen. They then took their first steps back down the aisle as a royal husband and wife.

  • Terrible music!

  • Middleton? the name says it all nothing outstanding, still it makes the royal look good, lesson well learnt from the elders. Marriage 5 years tops, still its a good pension.
