  • Nice footage. If you want to see the engine room after hours, take the elevator at the stern (says employee only) all the way down to the bottom. Exit to your left and through the door is the engine room. I've done it many times while staying on board. Best time to explore is between 2 and 3 in the morning. Use this elevator to see the swimming pool as well. The elevator is small and noisy, but allows access to most decks. There is also a jail cell located at the bow.

  • You do realise that was the steering gear compartment? Not the engine room...

  • That ship had 210,000 horsepower. The little prop you see must be a bow

thruster or stabilizer, because the main props would be 15 FEET HIGH!

Even IF the original turbines were still in her they used a prodigious amount

of fuel oil back in the day. It was 3 cents per gallon in the 1930s.

Imagine what it would cost to run it now at $2+ per gallon, 20,000 gal PER DAY!

Those old liners were made for speedy Atlantic crossings before airplanes,

    NOT cruising around doing nothing.

  • you and your funky gadgets from late 1930s... just got you propelled.

  • @trucker765

Unfortunatly she has had most of her boilers ripped out. As well as much of her machinery. So the old girl is not going very far.

  • your not in the engine room and your not in the bow, thats the steering gear room.

  • Aw NO! Not that propellor!!!!!! I'm getting the hell outta here!

  • @jackman1961

    ya rabid ron, advanced

  • @trucker765 No. SHe has zero power. When she came to long beach, they cut out all of the boiler and most of the engines. WHat remains is her long shafts leading to the propellers (only 1 of the 4 remains) and the reduction gearing. One of the boiler rooms (boiler room number 5) was converted to a very large area for wedding receptions and large parties. It is said to be one of the most haunted areas of the ship today.
