Clips of Leadbeaters Possums doing what they do courtesy of http://www.arkive.org/

Leadbeaters possums are endangered and Australian laws are making it very difficult to even attempt captive propagation of this species, so they may very well disappear.

You can see more about this and other possums at http://www.possumplanet.com.

  • This is a nice clip of the Leadbeater's Possum. However, what's difference between opossums and possums?

  • @lastsaracen Opossum is generally in the Western hemisphere and is the fugly mean looking thing us Americans are used to. Possums are generally in Australia and surrounding areas and are very different from the opossum. Essentially possum is a misnomer which carried over to Australia and is also heavily misused in most slang or lazy vernacular to really mean opossum. So I think that the Australian possum should be called something else and then using the term possum is no longer confusing.

  • In which way are they different from sugar gliders? I have 5 Sugar Gliders at home and really can't tell...

  • Possums have no patagium.

  • Outstanding footage of this beautiful & endangered species! 'Gymnobelideus leadbeateri'

    Year discovered - 1867

    Year re-discovered - 1961

Naturalist Des Hackett was the first person to breed this species in captivity & Des created the original Leadbeater's Mix -

my 'PML' mix was modified for captive sugar glider's in the USA & took several years to locate & collect Des Hackett's work with this beautiful species

  • You know, I have fed my sugar gliders BML (Bourbon's Modified LEADBEATER) diet for years and I don't think I have ever ever watched videos of actual Leadbeaters! Cute!

  • SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!
