SAVE ABANDONED BABIES FOUNDATION KICKS OFF
"PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT CONTEST"
(Chicago, IL) September 30, 2010 -- Today the Save Abandoned Babies Foundation (SAB) in an effort to increase awareness of the Safe Haven law kicked off a photo contest, open to all Illinois residents 18 years old and older.
Contest participants will take a photo of a Safe Haven sign already in place at a hospital, fire or police station. The photo may include multiple people, and/or appropriate costumes and props. Photos will be uploaded to the Save Abandoned
Babies Facebook page.
Five winners will be selected based upon effort, creativity, and the number of "like" votes the photo receives on Facebook. Each winner will receive $100.
Chet Coppock (Chicago Sports Personality), and Ashley Bradarich (Miss Illinois; U.S.A.) spoke about lending their support to the cause and this contest. Ms. Bradarich said,
"Helping to bring awareness to this organization is something very important. If the right ears hear about what we're doing, a child's life could be saved ... and that's amazing."
Eric and Missy shared their story of taking baby Sophie into their home and hearts. Eric and Missy are the adoptive parents of one of the Safe Haven law's success stories, and a testament to what happens when the Safe Haven law works.
These Safe Haven signs were first used when the Chicago City Council passed an Ordinance requiring every Chicago hospital, fire and police station to display them in a conspicuous place. The next step was passing an Illinois law mandating every safe
haven throughout the State follow the example set by Chicago. Currently, there are least 23 other States using this sign. Sadly, most people don't know what it symbolizes.
The contest is intended to bring the sign to the public's attention, and raise awareness about the Safe Haven law, meaning more precious newborn babies' lives will be saved.
Entries are accepted through the e-mail: PhotoContest@SaveAbandonedBabies.org
The Safe Haven law allows a parent to hand an unharmed baby, 30 days old or younger to staff at a hospital, fire or police station. They may walk away with no questions asked or fear of prosecution. Tragically, since the law's enactment, with too many people still unaware of this safe and legal option, 62 babies have been discarded with 30 of them not surviving.
The Save Abandoned Babies Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to saving the lives of newborn infants who might otherwise be unsafely abandoned.
Tell a friend. Talk about it. You might save a life.

The Safe Haven system is a good idea, however a valid effort needs to be made to find the father and allow him to take the child, if that is what he so desires. However, on the other side of the issue, should the men also be allowed the right to abandon their rights to an unwanted child?
