My name is Jessica. I'm 19 years old and have a son named Tristian who is 15 months old.
When I was 17 and a senior at South Oak Cliff High Schoo, I found out that I was pregnant. I was very afraid.
When I was five months pregnant, my boyfriend's friend told me about the YWCA's Nurse Family Partnership program. I had my first visit with my nurse, Tricia, before my first sonogram. I was very nervous, but Tricia assured me that everything would be OK.
Throughout the rest of my pregnancy, Tricia let me know what I should expect. As a first-time mother, this was great because she helped ease a lot of my fears.
Tricia not only told me what I should expect during and after pregnancy, but she also told me about a job opportunity with the YWCA Widner Child Care and Development Center in Oak Cliff. Three months after my pregnancy I was hired to work there. I was excited because I love to work with children, and this experience will help me get closer to my goal of being a teacher's assistant for the Dallas Independent School District.
