A few shots of the open day on the private railway in Staffordshire. I arrived at Statfold Barn to be greeted by a minor calamity. The large diesel had derailed at the points, trapping the beautiful blue Darjeeling engine and two coaches in the platform of the new station. The passengers were thus obliged to mount the trains in the shed area, the first train being hauled by Harrogate the large 0-6-0ST Peckett. This time I headed out into the fields, videoing the trains at various strategic points en-route.
By 12.30 the blockage had obviously been cleared as the Darjeeling loco arrived tender first at the passing loop. This engine, belonging to Adrian Shooter, was here for the weekend from its usual home in Buckinghamshire. The train hid in the loop on its way back to allow the new Hunslet Jacks Lane to pass through, giving the assembled photographers ample time to take photographs of this unique-in-England Sharpe-Stewart built engine. This was followed by a nice climbing shot of the quarry Hunslet with the Peckett assisting at the rear. By the time I had walked to the far end of the railway where a large loop sends the trains back facing the same way there seems to have been another points incident a couple of miles back at the station. I waited over an hour before the next train - thankfully the H&D facing the right way this time. It was filmed snaking round the double curves as it approached.
I was then able to follow it on foot before the next train passed it in the loop - another nice surprise - the also-unique-to-this-country O & K Mallet Pakis Baru 5. Backing the train was the first Hunslet also built at Statfold - Statfold.
The Darjeeling Himalayan engine Was the Hesston Steam Museums engine i volunteer there.
