Yes, he is. This is a (pretty cool) vocalist technique called 'growling'. Nearly all (in my opinion ALL) Death Metal vocalists use it to make their music sound agressive and evil. Just image this song, all original, but with a singer like Hammerfall or even Flo Rida or that shit. THIS would be funny.
