Konami Corporation (コナミ株式会社, Konami Kabushiki-gaisha?) (TYO: 9766 NYSE: KNM SGX: K20) is a Japanese leading developer and publisher of numerous popular and strong-selling toys, trading cards, anime, tokusatsu, slot machines, arcade cabinets and video games. Konami is famous for games such as the Metal Gear series, Dance Dance Revolution series, Castlevania series, Contra series, Pro Evolution Soccer series, Yu-Gi-Oh! series, and Silent Hill series.

The company was founded in 1969 as a jukebox rental and repair business in Osaka, Japan, by Kagemasa Kōzuki, the still-current chairman and chief executive officer. The name "Konami" is a conjunction of the names Kagemasa Kouzuki (current chairman of the board and CEO), Yoshinobu Nakama, Tatuso Miyasako[citation needed]. Konami can also mean "small wave(s)" in the Japanese language.

Konami is currently headquartered in Tokyo and additionally operates health and physical fitness clubs in Japan. Konami also operates United States activities in El Segundo, California for video games and Paradise, Nevada for the casino gaming industry. The location in Paradise, Nevada is located across the street from one of the runways at McCarran International Airport. Its Australian gaming operations are located in Sydney, Australia, and distribution of Konami's games in Australia is handled by Mindscape Australia. Distribution of KOE's games in Australia was to be taken over by Red Ant Enterprises in February 2009, but Jason Hill from The Age and ASIC, a government body, announced that the company went into External Receivership and Administration, which then led KOE to re-sign with Atari Australia, now Namco Bandai Partners. On the 5th of January 2010, Kunio Neo, President of Konami of Europe announced Mindscape Australia would be Australia's local distributor after a failed distributor change made Konami change back to Namco Bandai Partners, then Atari Australia.

Coldplay are an English alternative rock group, formed in London in 1997. Chris Martin, who became Coldplay's lead vocalist and frontman of the band and Jonny Buckland, who became lead guitarist, were looking forward to form a band while at University College London. After forming Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish afterwards. Will Champion joined as a drummer and backup vocalist who plays various instruments, making the band's lineup complete. Out of the four, one member was considered to be fifth of the group; Phil Harvey has been the group's band manager. The band finally renamed to "Coldplay" in 1998. Tim Rice-Oxley was to be added to the lineup, but he refused to as he is working with Keane. The band later recorded and released three EPs; Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999 and The Blue Room in the same year. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.

Coldplay's early material was compared to acts such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2, and Travis. They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year, Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, released in 2002, won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. Their next release, X&Y, received a slightly less enthusiastic yet still generally positive reception upon its release in 2005. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely favourable reviews in 2008, earning several Grammy nominations and wins. Coldplay have sold over 50 million records worldwide.

Since the release of Parachutes, Coldplay have drawn influence from other sources, including Echo & the Bunnymen, Kate Bush, George Harrison and Muse on A Rush of Blood to the Head, Johnny Cash and Kraftwerk for X&Y and Blur, Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine on Viva la Vida. Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

  • The harmonies are completely different. No plagiarism at all.

  • @keltonfloyd Unfortunately, the "harmonies" is not the only point to take in mind when you are judging if the plagiarism exist. The note progression is almost identical, the main idea of the melody is clearly identical. Sorry.

  • interesting, since i was defending x-tracks- plan 94 since the beggining not that i dislike coldplay, i like them but it's interesting to know this, btw, David Guetta also failed in his track when love takes over, exactly the same piano melody, xD

  • @Luver4Trance Wow I didn't know that from David Guetta. Thanks for the info!.

  • This is a pointless fight, I see no plagarism what so ever

  • @drmmrx1 Ok man, i accept your opinion.

  • COLDPLAY TOTALLY RIPPED OFF THIS OBSCURE JAPANESE ONLY GAME!

  • This is farcical. There are only twelve notes in music, and being influenced by something is not the same as outright plagiarism. Go home

  • You could be on to something...I actually do hear the similarity. I also feel Linkin Park ripped some beats from Castlevania games....

  • They also plagurised voulez vous

  • @drmmrx1

I agree with you that it's not plagiarism, but not because of the reasons you give.

Viva La Vida was deemed plagiarism of If I Could Fly even though the chord progression was different as well as being in a different key.

In this instance, it's not plagiarism because the context (harmony + groove) is WAAAAAYYY different, even though the melody line is kind of similar.

    Cheers :-)

  • @arpee9216

99% of legitimate plagiarism is not intended. Intention (especially lack thereof) is not a factor in a plagiarism case.

It's similar but the harmony (the "emotion") is completely different, thus it can't be plagiarism.
