The AE88 in the VIN is a ' USA only ' thing i think. Because all the european GT-S i've seen have AE86 in the VIN.
But in the end, the only thing that really matters is that owner is happy with the car.
TakA7, did you buy the car that you mentioned in your post from 6months ago?

@roadwarrior001 yeah and AE86 can be either hatchback or coupe even an SR5 is an AE86, real AE85s were only made in Japan they have a 1.5 SOHC Engine when in the US SR5s have a 1.6 SOHC engine and a GT-S would have a 1.6 DOHC engine i made a research and i realized that :)

@TakA7x1999 In the VIN number, it'll say AEXX. The GT-S Body will be a AE88 and the SR5 will be AE86

@roadwarrior001 hey guys im about to buy an AE86 and i wanted to make sure that it isnt an SR5 aside from the difference of SOHC and DOHC what other things can be different in the car to make sure that im buying an AE86 instead of an SR5 in the body? interiors? heres the link from the car that im gonna buy btw is not a virus im from Puerto Rico

@brandonx2010 I know , i just gave an example about a common mistake made about ae86's .
And i also know alot off people try to pass off their ae85 as a true ae86 . It annoys you , but not me really . Everyone can do what they like .

@roadwarrior001 ae86 doesnt mean it was made in 86 its just a number code, im talkin about people who do have SR5's and try to say they drive an ae86 annoy me

@brandonx2010 , yea but not all 2dr coupe are sr5's . I have a 2dr coupe and it says ae86 on the papers and on the chassis numbers(VIN) in the car . My previous ae86 was one of the last build in '87 . Some people actually said it's not the real deal because a true ae86 was made in '86 . They obviously didn't do much research because ae86's were made from 83-87 . There so many mistakes made about this car , it's ridiculous sometimes .

@roadwarrior001 the bodies look LOOK the same but sr5's are not true ae86's i have a GTS hatch an actual ae86 and its stupid and aggervating to me when people with sr5's swap the motor and say they drive an ae86 when its really just a replica

SR5 bodys are the same as GTS bodys, he just has a JDM Kouki front bumper.
